Mission Statement

TYGERBERG HOSPICE AIMS TO PROVIDE COMPASSIONATE, QUALITY INDIVIDUALISED COMPREHENSIVE CARE FOR LIFE-LIMITING AND CHRONICALLY ILL INDIVIDUALS AND THEIR FAMILIES IN OUR COMMUNITY THROUGH QUALITY MEDICAL AND CARING TREATMENT WITH SPIRITUAL, BEREAVEMENT AND EMOTIONAL SUPPORT, RESPECT AND ON-GOING EDUCATION TO OUR EMPLOYEES AND THE COMMUNITY

History

Tygerberg Hospice was registered as a Trust in November 1997 and a Non-Profit Organisation in November 1999 and started with 1 registered nurse, 5 volunteers and 25 patients. Tygerberg Hospice originally operated from a rented property in Bellville.

Tygerberg Hospice donation shop has grown in stature. Two properties have been purchased for Administration and Nursing.

Motor vehicles and medical equipment has been purchased to enable the Nursing Staff to be able to render a much needed service in the community.

The Care Team has been trained, developed and equipped to maintain a high level of competency while rendering services to over 1000 patients which covers the Northern and Tygerberg Substructures of the Cape Metropole. These services are provided free of charge.

The hospice has progressed to include a 40 bed 24-7 Intermediate Care Facility in partnership with the Department of Health and Karl Bremer Hospital.
